India Covid cases at 28,808,372; global tally 173.7 mn

The Ministry of Health says 545 people are hospitalized with COVID-19, with 510 patients in intensive care and 344 on a ventilator.

The number of recoveries continue to outnumber daily new cases for 23 consecutive days.

India on Sunday logged 1,14,460 new Covid infections in 24 hours, the lowest since April 6 when the country saw a rise of 1,15,736 cases in a day. In the last 24 hours, active cases decreased by 80,745.

Two new cases were reported in the Renfrew County and District Health Unit. The recovery tally of India has reached 2,67,95,549 and the recovery rate stands at 93.38 per cent.

Of the new infections confirmed today, 115 are in Toronto, 112 are in Peel Region, 59 are in Niagara Region, 47 are in York Region and 40 are in Ottawa.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, a total of 36,11,74,142 samples tested up to June 4, of which 20,84,421 samples were tested yesterday.

In closely watched indicators, the seven-day rolling average per 100,000 population was 31.9, the per cent positivity of testing was 3.5 and the reproductive number was 0.86. The daily positivity rate further dropped to 5.62 percent; active Covid-19 cases also dropped to 14,77,799, now accounts for just 5.13 percent of total cases.

With the fresh cases, the total tally of coronavirus cases in the country climbed to 2,88,09,339.

As of Saturday evening, 9,992,575 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered, including 158,393 doses given Saturday.
