Christian Eriksen Collapses During Denmark's Euro 2020 Clash Against Finland


His teammates formed a wall around him to give him privacy as the medics treated him.

The Danish FA have also confirmed that Eriksen is awake and will undergo further examinations at Rigshospitalet.

Eriksen collapsed towards the end of the first half and had to be administered CPR by medical staff as players from both sides appeared distressed.

Play came to a halt just before half-time as Eriksen, without any players around him, dropped to the ground.

The Euro 2020 match between Denmark and Finland had been halted in the 43rd minute with the score 0-0. Kjaer, the captain, was particularly emotional, and was subbed off 20 minutes after the 8:30 p.m. restart.

The governing body of European soccer said Eriksen has been stabilized and the Danish soccer federation said he was awake.

According to AFP , a French official said two people were detained after the slap. The presidential guard quickly move in and take hold of the assailant.

The traumatic scenes would have been watched by millions around the world and there was an outpouring of support and prayers for the 29-year-old.

When play resumed, Pohjanpalo put Finland ahead against the run of play in the 60th minute when he rose above Joakim Maehle to head home a cross from Jere Uronen.

UEFA later said in a statement: "Following the medical emergency involving Denmark's player Christian Eriksen, a crisis meeting has taken place with both teams and match officials and further information will be communicated at 19:45 CET (18:45 BST)".

When players returned to the field over an hour later to warm up, some Danish players appeared to still be struggling emotionally.

According to a Reuters photographer, "Eriksen raised his hand as he was carried from the pitch on a stretcher".

Eriksen is one of Denmark's biggest stars and the incident brought an instant sense of shock to the Parken Stadium, where about 15,000 fans fell into hushed silence.
