WA premier backs snap COVID-19 lockdowns

Other Australian states have yet to increase travel restrictions with their western neighbour, but extra protocols are being put in place.

Other close contacts will be contacted by public health officials and asked to quarantine for 14 days.

Earlier it was announced Perth had avoided a lockdown.

The Ministry of Health advise that there are no new cases of COVID-19 to report in the community today.

In the latest Perth COVID-19 Mark McGowan has announced a quarantine hotel security guard in his 20's has tested positive to COVID-19.

Around 750 passengers who travelled either directly or indirectly between Western Australia and New Zealand between 27 April and 1 May are being contacted today by the Ministry of Health's contact tracing team and being given the above advice.

Opposition Leader Mia Davies said the lockdown could have been avoided had the government acted on warnings about ventilation issues within its hotels.

Two of the man's close contacts have also tested positive.

WA contact tracers are contacting all the restaurants they visited and locations where they delivered food to direct people to isolate and test for COVID-19.

To date 27 people have got in touch with Healthline to say they were in the locations of interest at the relevant time.

The hotel quarantine worker, aged in his 20s, is believed to have been infectious in the community for four days, during which time he visited a number of locations including a shopping centre and a Coles.

Both positive cases revealed in routine testing on April 24 stayed on the same floor the guard was working.
