Multiple fatalities reported in California shooting, suspect killed

Wednesday's incident was the latest of at least eight deadly US mass shootings in the past three months, including a string of attacks at Atlanta-area day spas in mid-March and a rampage days later that left 10 people dead at a Colorado supermarket.

The VTA earlier in the day announced that all light-rail service in the system will be suspended as of noon, with bus shuttles providing limited service for riders.

VTA Board of Directors chairperson Glenn Hendricks called the shooting a "horrible tragedy".

"We ask for people's prayers", Childress said. The victims include transit employees.

'The Sheriff's Office has set up a reunification center for families at the County Building at 70 Hedding St., near 1st Street.

VTA said service wasn't impacted.
