Middlesex-London sees 72 new COVID-19 cases, no deaths

For the week ending on April 24, the most recent data available, the weekly percent positivity for Middlesex-London was 6.8 per cent, compared to 9.2 per cent for Ontario. "Continuing to focus on getting vaccines in the arms of those most at risk will help to stop the spread of COVID-19 in these communities, protect our hospital capacity and save lives".

There are now more than 2,167 people in hospital due to the disease.

The Ministry of Health says that 2,167 people are hospitalized because of the novel coronavirus, with 886 in intensive care and 609 on ventilators.

Where are the COVID-19 cases in Ontario?

One Toronto-area region said on the weekend it would open up more bookings for those who live or work in hot spots starting Tuesday, but warned it was limited by supply issues.

There were 931 new cases in Toronto, 653 in Peel, 275 in York, 147 in Durham, 128 in Hamilton, 112 in Ottawa and 101 in Halton.

Officials identified eight new cases of the B.1.351 (South African variant), and so the total case count in the province rose to 309.

Ontario does not now report how many cases of the B.1.617 variant, originally found in India, are found in the province.

Ontario is making good on its promise to expand COVID-19 vaccine eligibility, opening its provincial booking portal today to hot-spot residents aged 18 and older. But last week Elliott promised a major expansion was on the way thanks to an expected influx of millions of vaccine doses.

Dr. Barbara Yaffe, Ontario's associate medical officer of health, said Monday that the province had asked the National Advisory Committee on Immunization to make recommendations about potentially mixing vaccines.

Adults living in the 114 specific postal codes designated as hot spots are able to start reserving appointments as of this morning, though some on social media reported long wait times or technical difficulties with the provincial booking website. The number of cases for any city or region may differ slightly from what is reported by the province, because local units report figures at different times.
