Mayra Zulfiqar shooting: Two men sought over killing of Londoner in Lahore


The deceased was identified as Mahira Zulfiqar, who had arrived in Pakistan from the United Kingdom two months ago and was staying at the upper portion of a bungalow in Lahore DHA with her friend, reported Geo News.

Ms Zulfiqar, who studied law at the University of West London, is understood to have moved to Pakistan from the United Kingdom around two months ago after attending a friend's wedding and deciding to stay in the country.

The young woman was found with a bullet wound to her shoulder, but police said she was also thought to have been strangled.

Police said they had not yet made any arrests and her parents are understood to be flying to Pakistan.

A case has been registered against two men over the death of a dual British-Belgian woman of Pakistani origin in Lahore's DHA neighbourhood, it emerged on Tuesday.

Miss Zulfiqar had been threatened by two friends after they tried to force her into marriage, according to a police complaint filed by her uncle, Mohammad Nazeer. She was already died and was bleeding from the neck, according to the report he filed.

Ms Zulfiqar had refused to marry both of them, and her uncle is now seeking legal action against the two he has accused of her killing, the outlet reported.

US Denies Hostage Deal With Iran
In a statement to the Associated Press , a State Department spokesperson said reports of its agreement "are not true". Even after an initial American denial, an anchorwoman on Iranian state TV still repeated the announcement.

After she told him that she feared for her life from the two men, Nazeer said he assured her and asked her to let him know if something happened.

The officer said that they had been alerted to the apparent murder, and that forensic experts had cordoned off the crime scene.

Station House Officer Qasim said the cause of her death was not yet clear.

"We have seized the mobile phone for forensic analysis", the SP said, adding that police teams were also trying to access the nearby CCTV cameras' footage to check the movement of any suspect.

Mayra Zulfiqar is believed to have been aged about 25, and news reports said she was killed after refusing to marry a man.

Supt Sayyed said they had also contacted the parents and other family members of the deceased overseas to get details from them.
