Multiple people dead after gunman opens fire at FedEx facility

Indianapolis police spokesperson Genae Cook confirmed multiple people were shot during the incident late on Thursday night.

One of the people taken to a hospital was in critical condition, Cook said.

"As you all know IN is very specific IN how positive identification can be done - which is identification by a family member, dental, DNA and fingerprints - and so adhering to all of those measures, we must make sure that people that are identified on the scene are accurately and appropriately positively identified", she said.

Fedex released a statement early on Friday saying it was cooperating with authorities and working to get more information.

The shooter wasn't immediately identified, and Cook said investigators were still in the process of conducting interviews and gathering information.

The incident, which lasted only a couple of minutes, was already over by the time police responded to the scene, Craig McCartt, the Indianapolis police department's deputy chief, told a news briefing on Friday.

It was the latest in a recent string of mass shootings across the U.S. Last month, eight people were fatally shot at massage businesses across the Atlanta area, and 10 died in gunfire at a supermarket in Boulder, Colorado.

"Our most heartfelt sympathies are with all those affected by this senseless act of violence", the company wrote.

State reports more than 600 virus cases since Friday
Douglas County has a 14-day COVID-19 incidence rate of 88.12 per 100,000 people and a test positivity rate of 2.4%. Doctor Henry says about 50 percent of cases province-wide now involve a variant of concern, primarily B.1.1.7.

Speaking to reporters in response to the shooting, Vice President Harris said there is "no question this violence must end".

McCartt also told CNN that the gunman killed himself as officers encountered him, and that no officer fired. "Safety is our top priority, and our thoughts are with all those who are affected".

Five people were hospitalised after the Thursday night shooting, according to police.

"Somebody went behind their auto to the trunk and then got another gun", he said, adding: "Then I saw one body on the floor". Five people, including a pregnant woman, were shot and killed in the city in January, and a man was accused of killing three adults and a child before abducting his daughter during at argument at a home in March.

"We're hoping for the best", she said.

"I also urged Congress to hear the call of the American people - including the vast majority of gun owners - to enact commonsense gun violence prevention legislation, like universal background checks and a ban of weapons of war and high-capacity magazines", Biden said.

"She got shot on her left arm", Parminder Singh said. According to one count, the U.S. has had 45 mass shootings - defined as an incident that results in four or more casualties (dead or wounded) over the past month. "She's fine, she's in the hospital now".
