Tucker Carlson says Rep. Matt Gaetz's appearance was 'weirdest interview' ever

Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida appeared on Tucker Carlson's show on Tuesday and denied allegations that he had sexual relations with a seventeen-year-old before naming a DOJ official who had attempted to extort his family for millions of dollars.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said Wednesday that House Republicans would support removing Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) from his committee assignments if allegations related to a Department of Justice investigation are true.

The New York Times reported on Tuesday that the probe is part of a broader investigation into Joel Greenberg, a Florida tax collector and Gaetz ally who was charged a year ago with 14 felony counts, including sex trafficking of a minor.

Perino also asked McCarthy whether he knew why Gaetz voted against 2017 legislation related to human trafficking, to which McCarthy replied, "No, I have no idea whatsoever why he would vote against that". Gaetz has separately insisted that his family is being extorted, a claim that is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The 38-year-old laid out more details on Twitter yesterday on his allegations of a smear campaign. Last night, the much-maligned congressman lowkey tried to implicate Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson (and his wife) into his sex abuse allegations during an unusual interview on live television.

The investigation began in the final months of former President Donald Trump's administration under Attorney General William Barr and was part of an investigation into Joel Greenberg, a former tax collector in northern Florida, who was indicted a year ago on charges of sex trafficking of a child and financially supporting people, including one underage girl, in exchange for sex.

"That was one of the weirdest interviews I've ever conducted", Carlson said.

The probe has been under way for almost a year and Gaetz has been aware for months that he was under investigation, the person said.

Dr. Birx Slammed For COVID Comments, Said Deaths Could Have Been Mitigated
In March 2020, she praised Trump for being attentive to the data presented regarding the outbreak. There were about 100,000 deaths that came from that original surge", said Birx.

"This is a blatant attempt to distract from the fact that Matt Gaetz is apparently about to be indicted for sex trafficking underage girls", said McGee to the Daily Beast.

Gaetz confirmed toAxios that he is the subject, not the target, of "an investigation regarding sexual conduct with women".

'Over the past several weeks my family and I have been victims of an organized criminal extortion involving a former DOJ official seeking $25million while threatening to smear my name, ' Gaetz said in a statement.

According to the New York Times, the investigation into Mr Gaetz was part of a broader federal investigation into one of the congressman's friends - Joel Greenberg, a fellow Florida politician.

"No part of the allegations against me are true, and the people pushing these lies are targets of the ongoing extortion investigation", he said.

He alleged that the woman had been "threatened" by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and told "she could face trouble" if she didn't confess to authorities that Gaetz was involved in a "pay-for-play scheme".

Gaetz has not been charged with a crime. "You know, I've paid for flights, for hotel rooms". I've been, you know, generous as a partner. The Justice Department did not immediately comment.
