IRS to launch website to track stimulus payment

The IRS says that for those who received the first two stimulus checks but didn't receive a payment via direct deposit, they will generally receive a check or, in some instances, a prepaid debit card (referred to as an "EIP Card)". She received her first $1,200 Economic Impact Payment last spring, but she never got a second $600 check in December after the wrong bank account information appeared on the IRS "Get My Payment" tool, the government's tracking portal.

Eligibility for the stimulus checks is based on income. A payment will not be added to an existing EIP card mailed for the first or second round of stimulus payments.

While the country's economy is recovering, Bloomberg reports more than 10 million people were still unemployed as of January - more than double the amount in January 2020, before the coronavirus began to spread rapidly in the country, ultimately killing more than half a million people.

In addition, the IRS will automatically send stimulus checks to people who didn't file a return but receive Social Security retirement, survivor or disability benefits (SSDI), Railroad Retirement benefits, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Veterans Affairs benefits. This includes anyone who successfully registered online at using the agency's Non-Filers tool past year, or alternatively, submitted a special simplified tax return to the IRS. Paper checks and debit cards require more processing and mailing time.

Payment Status Not Available: This message means either your payment hasn't been processed yet, you are not eligible for a payment or the IRS doesn't have enough information about you.

The IRS had said Friday night that the Get My Payment tool would not be available until Monday.

If that happens, filers should check to make sure they meet the requirements for the money.

The IRS reminds taxpayers that the income levels in this new round of stimulus payments have changed.

The payments phase out much more quickly than in previous rounds-an individual with an income of $80,000, or a couple with $160,000, will receive nothing.

Single parents with at least one dependent who earn $112,500 or less also get the full amount.

Need More Information: This message means a payment was sent but it was returned to the IRS, perhaps because it was sent to an inactive bank account or to an address where you no longer live. It also allows you to update your bank account information, according to the IRS website.

"I've been in the throes of a meltdown". "If this bill is sufficient, and I think it's going to help in a big way, then we won't do another bill". If the payment has been processed, it will show a payment date and whether the money was or will be sent by direct deposit or mail.

No action is needed by most taxpayers to receive payment.
