India reports biggest daily jump in COVID-19 infections this year

As many as 20 States/UTs have less than 1,000 Active Cases. Overall, India has now recorded 1,13,59,048 cases since the outbreak almost a year ago, according to the government data.

The count of daily fresh cases has been on a steady rise since the last week of February and is touching record highs for the last three days.

Auckland joined the rest of the country at alert level 1 at midday on Friday, following almost two weeks in alert levels 2 and 3, sparked by the detection of a community case in Papatoetoe, south Auckland.

The tally crossed the 2-lakh mark on Saturday after 53 days. The load was 1,84,598 on Wednesday.

India's COVID-19 deaths rose by 161 to 158,607 over the last 24 hours, Sunday's data show, compared to an average of about 100 since early February.
