On Tuesday, the province reported the new cases, which included 71 cases from Monday and 96 cases Tuesday, according to Dr. Brent Roussin, Manitoba's chief provincial public health officer.

It now means there has now been a total of 3,980 Covid-19 related deaths in Ireland since the onset of the pandemic 11 months ago.

"As always, we know this is such a challenging and hard time for families, for caregivers and for communities to lose loved ones to this virus", said provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

Henry noted that three health-care outbreaks were declared over the past four days, including two on Vancouver Island.

The latest updates mean B.C.is now dealing with 15 outbreaks in long-term care and assisted living, and six in acute care units. Of these, 176,926 people have received their first dose, with a further 91,625 people reaching their second dose.

New Zealand reports three new COVID-19 local cases, first since January
More testing is being done to ascertain what strain this is, and whether there's a match to any other case in New Zealand. Ardern and Director general of health Ashley Bloomfield are fronting a 7pm press conference.

Meanwhile, as Northumberland County moves into the orange zone of Ontario's COVID-19 Response Framework today, the HKPR Health Unit is reporting seven new cases and 13 recoveries, for a total of 20 active.

Henry notes that the case numbers we see today reflect transmission that occurred weeks ago. He said there is a huge range in the number of contacts per case - from zero to more than sixty.

Health officials say the coronavirus remains widespread across the state, but the surge that made Arizona the nation's hot spot last month is receding.

A reproductive rate above one can spiral into exponential transmission, she says.

This is a developing story.
