Trump names 2 attorneys to lead impeachment defense

Their arguments will include a look at Trump's "prolonged effort" to persuade his supporters to believe his false claims that the election was stolen - and describe how his pleas for them to come to Washington and his words immediately before the attack directly caused it.

With the exception of Senator Mitt Romney, Republicans stuck with Trump during that trial.

There's a lot of video and audio available to tell that story - much of it produced by the insurrectionists themselves. Trump denied the allegations through his lawyers and called the trial unconstitutional. These Republicans have expressed concern over another massive package weeks after former President Trump approved a $900 billion measure, NPR reported.

Former president Donald Trump announced a new impeachment legal defense team Sunday, one day after it was revealed that he had parted ways with an earlier set of attorneys with just over a week to go before his Senate trial.

But attorneys Bruce Castor Jr. and David Schoen, who were retained just two days ago after the previous legal team quit in part over disagreements in strategy, made it clear they are leaving the door open to argue claims of election fraud, and appear ready to defend the president's words at the January 6 "Save America" rally that preceded the deadly attack on the Capitol, which Trump has been charged with inciting.

That's a contrast from his first impeachment trial, when Trump's high-profile team of attorneys included Alan Dershowitz, one of the best-known criminal defense lawyers in the country, as well as White House counsel Pat Cipollone, and Jay Sekulow, who has argued cases before the Supreme Court.

U.S. media reports claim the decision of Mr Bowers and Ms Barbier to pull out at the last moment was mutually agreed.

While Mr Portman said Mr Trump's behaviour had been "inexcusable", he added, "Well, it can be inexcusable, and yet not be subject to a conviction after a president has left office".

But having said all of that, this would be the first impeachment of a former president. The Democrats urged the Senate to bar Trump from holding office again.

The Diary of a Mad Black Woman star began modeling in the 1950s before landing a role in the 1957 film Carib Gold . The long distance between them, Tyson wrote , was painful. "My heart goes out to her family and loved ones".

The ex-US President stands accused of incitement to insurrection after an angry mob of his supporters stormed the Capitol buildings on January 6, while Congress was counting the Electoral College votes. The Republican-led Senate later acquitted the president, allowing him to continue holding office.

But Trump did end up hiring two lawyers to replace the team that left on Saturday.

Castor is joined on Trump's defense team by attorney David Schoen.

The statement said that Schoen has previously worked with Trump and other advisors on the upcoming trial and that both he and Castor agree that the impeachment is unconstitutional.

HOW TO WATCH: The major broadcast and cable news networks will cover all angles of the impeachment hearings and, presumably, have gavel-to-gavel coverage when the trial itself begins on February 9. Now he's representing Donald Trump.

SNELL: You know, they are going to be trying to move the conversation away from that process, away from talking about whether or not this is constitutional.

The overture from the coalition of 10 GOP senators, mostly centrists, was an attempt to show that at least some in the Republican ranks want to work with Biden's new administration, rather than simply operating as the opposition in the minority in Congress.

Democrats made clear that they disagree with all points. We have to stop pretending otherwise.

Democrats insist, despite little chance of a conviction. "And that's about as undemocratic as you can get".
