Saudi Arabia extends suspension of international flights for additional week

The country's land and sea ports were also closed for a week.

According to a PIA spokesperson, Riyadh has only allowed one-way flights to the country due to the new strain of the coronavirus.

"An official source in the Ministry of Interior said: Extending the suspension of worldwide flights and entering the Kingdom through land and seaports for another week", Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation stated in a tweet.

The statement added that exceptional cases would be exempted and non-Saudi nationals would be allowed to leave the country.

The Saudi Press Agency quoted an Interior Ministry official as saying Monday night that the Kingdom would extend the procedures "for another week, with an emphasis on excluding the movement of goods, commodities and supply chains".

The authority clarified that these instructions do not include the countries where the new mutated strain of coronavirus has appeared and that is in accordance with the decision of the competent health authorities.

Saudi Arabia's neighbors, Kuwait and Oman, followed suit, but the latter said on Sunday that it would reopen borders as of December 29.

Several countries temporarily suspended flights to the United Kingdom last week, with the Philippines extending the ban on United Kingdom flights until mid-January.
