Ontario Mulls How All-Canadian Division In NHL Might Work


The government prefers the bubble setup the NHL used for its summer return-to-play in Edmonton and Toronto, according to sources, but the league doesn't believe it's feasible to recreate that for an entire season.

LeBrun noted that the National Hockey League hopes to reach a resolution by Monday in terms of finding the necessary common ground with the Canada Public Health Agency - which would allow for an all-Canadian division to go on as planned in what will be a regional-based realignment for 2021.

The schedule is expected to be released in the next few days.

Those seven start training camps December 31, which is three days ahead of the rest of the teams. On that note, TSN's Pierre LeBrun reports that the NHLPA and its player reps are expected to meet tonight while the NHL Board of Governors will meet this weekend.

Given this news, it looks like that date is going to be a long shot and it may be more realistic for the National Hockey League to try to have a 48-game schedule that begins on February 1.
