MI and Georgia Reject Sidney Powell's Lawsuits Seeking to Overturn Election Results

A federal judge in MI denied ex-Trump campaign lawyer Sidney Powell's request to decertify the state's election result and slammed her claims of a vast election-fraud conspiracy as an assault on hard-fought voting rights.

Federal judges in Georgia and MI rebuked two sweeping legal challenges brought by conservative attorney Sidney Powell seeking to overturn both states' presidential election results.

Trump and his supporters have spent weeks since the November 3 election making unsubstantiated claims the election was marred by fraud.

U.S. District Judge Linda Parker in Detroit and U.S. District Judge Timothy Batten in Atlanta ruled that the plaintiffs lacked the legal standing to bring the lawsuits and that the cases were filed too late.

Batten said a hearing on Monday that the plaintiffs were seeking "perhaps the most extraordinary relief ever sought" in connection with an election.

But the judge found no evidence of impropriety and schemes to change votes for Joe Biden.

Powell did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

"Plaintiffs could have lodged their constitutional challenges much sooner than they did, and certainly not three weeks after Election Day and one week after certification of nearly three million votes", she wrote. The Electoral College will meet on December 14 to cast their votes for the Democrat, who won 306 electoral votes to Trump's 232.

Trump, who has falsely claimed that he won the election, and his allies have waged an unsuccessful legal battle to try to undo the election results.

Powell, who previously represented retired Gen. Michael Flynn and was, until recently, affiliated with President Donald Trump's campaign, pledged to "release the Kraken" on a massive but ultimately unfounded election fraud conspiracy involving rigged voting machines and communist dictators like the late Hugo Chavez.

Powell has also filed lawsuits seeking to overturn election results in Wisconsin and Arizona, two other swing states that have certified their election results for Biden. Georgia election officials called the allegations the stuff of "mythos", claiming that none of the information was accurate. Under U.S. law, Congress will consider a state's election result to be "conclusive" if it is finalized by the safe harbor date.
