This handout picture shows Snapchat's latest feature called "Spotlight", a new curated short-form video feed in a stepped up challenge to social media rivals like TikTok.

TikTok is the new Snapchat stories.

Snapchat has joined the competition against TikTok with its new feature Spotlight, which shares personal, creative Snaps to a public display platform. Instead, an algorithm will determine what to show Snapchat users based on how often others view the post.

Snaps are featured without information on the users who submit them, so Snapchatters browsing the content have no way of knowing who is behind it or contacting them. Under this, users can record a video of upto 60 seconds with all Snapchat filters and features, to release it for their community. And, Snaps submitted to Spotlight must also adhere to the company's Spotlight Guidelines, Terms of Service, and Spotlight Terms. However, the Spotlight feed itself will be moderated.

It is a rare instance of Snapchat adopting the features of other apps.

Users will now see an option to share their video in the Spotlight section when they have filmed a clip using the app. It also depends on how long you have been watching that content.

Stop holding the Camera button to end your recording.

Snap's desire to create an environment that prizes privacy and safety has been a double-edged sword.

On Snapchat, all content is time-limited and can be sent directly to an individual or small group of friends.

"This will pull in new users and creators, and it will motivate more influencers to take to Snapchat and bring their followings with them", she added.

It is like the more views you get on a post; you will do top in the leaderboard. "It's a fair and fun place for Snapchatters to share their best Snaps and see perspectives from across the Snapchat community".

Although Spotlight won't contain advertising initially, Snap hasn't ruled out that possibility in the future.

Are there any Spotlight snap examples? Snapchat says the new feature is created to reward creativity in a fun and fair way.

Spotlight is now available in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and France, with more countries added "soon".
