Michigan GOP lawmakers Mike Shirkey and Lee Chatfield were summoned to the White House on Friday in a presumed bid to overturn the election in the president's favor even though the vote clearly went to Joe Biden, released statements saying they'll follow the law.
"There was this outrage that the president was going to ask us to break the law, he was going to ask us to interfere, and that just simply didn't happen", he told Fox News of the meeting.
"In response to the statement, Trump said in a tweet Saturday that evidence of fraud would be shown in court".
Trump had an initial lead in MI on Election Day until mail-in ballots swung the race in Biden's favor, putting the former vice president ahead of the sitting president by more than 150,000 votes in the battleground state. Upton, R-St. Joseph, said "the voters have spoken" when he appeared on CNN. Trump has made unsubstantiated allegations of election irregularities in Detroit.
The two Republicans reversed their position following the criticism and agreed to certify the election, then tried to rescind their votes after the president called Palmer.
"Whether the Board of Canvassers certifies our results tomorrow or decides to take the full time allowed by law to perform their duties, it's inappropriate for anyone to exert pressure on them", he stated.
The county board certified its election results Tuesday.

"We have not yet been made aware of any information that would change the outcome of the election in MI", they said in a joint statement. "You've got to let those votes stand". If the Legislature were to select electors not according to the popular vote, "In addition to being illegal there's no sense of fair play if that were to occur", he adds.
Numerous lawsuits seeking to invalidate votes weren't filed by the Trump campaign but by sympathizers, and the ones that haven't been rejected or withdrawn have little chance of success, said Myrna Perez, director of the Voting Rights and Elections Program at the Brennan Center, a nonpartisan law and policy institute.

Activists fear that running out the clock could enable the state legislature to send alternate electors, a path that threatens to overturn the will of the people.
