India's Active COVID-19 Caseload Has Shrunk To 4,80,719: Health Ministry


India's coronavirus count edged closer to the 90-lakh mark on Friday with 44,878 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 87,28,795.

The total confirmed cases of the virus in Punjab reached 108,822 on Friday while the total number of deaths was 2,455.

On Friday, New Delhi's Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal identified the pollution as "one of the biggest factors" for the spike in COVID-19 cases and hoped the situation would come under control within the next seven to 10 days.

The trend of daily new recoveries outnumbering daily new cases continued for the 40th day with 52,718 new recoveries registered in the last 24 hours.

With 520 new coronavirus deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the toll mounted to 1,29,188.

SEOUL - South Korea reported 205 more cases of the COVID-19 as of Saturday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 28,338. There are 20,262 active cases and 8,24,189 recovered cases in the State. "Kerala recorded 5,804 new cases, while Maharashtra stood at the third position with 4,132 new cases yesterday", the Health Ministry said. Moreover, on Tuesday and Wednesday, Delhi reported over 80 deaths, for the first time since July, the report said. The US, which has the highest caseload in the world and is the only country with more total cases than India, has been recording more than 1 lakh cases for the last one week. The city recorded as many as 104 deaths and 7,053 new infections.

Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have the highest percentage of active cases, mortality and recovery rate of corona virus. Meanwhile the death toll is at 6,847 as per the State Health Department.

COVID-19 beds in government-run hospitals are almost full and the availability of intensive care unit beds with ventilator support in the city has reached an all-time low, according to the government data.
