Trump adviser Hope Hicks tests positive for coronavirus: source By

Donald Trump announced on Friday morning that he and his wife Melania tested positive for coronavirus.

Trump, who is tested regularly for the virus that causes COVID-19, has held rallies with thousands of people in recent weeks in the run-up to the 3 November election, despite warnings from public health professionals against having events with large crowds. The US President confirmed the news and added that he along with his wife Melania Trump have taken the test and while they wait for the tests, they have begun quarantine process.

Hope Hicks, one of President Donald Trump's closest aides, has tested positive for the coronavirus.

The president, who has spent much of the year downplaying the threat of a virus that has killed more than 205,000 Americans, said he and Mrs. Trump were quarantining. Along with other senior aides, she accompanied him to OH for the presidential debate on Tuesday and to Minnesota for a campaign event on Wednesday.

"Whether we quarantine or whether we have it, I don't know", Trump said earlier in the evening. An initial statement from the White House said both he and the First Lady were "well at this time".

Ms Hicks had accompanied Mr Trump to OH for the presidential debate on Tuesday and to Minnesota for a campaign event on Wednesday. She reportedly began feeling symptoms after a rally in Minnesota Wednesday evening. "And you get close to them - and things happen".

She served previously as White House communications director and as a spokesperson for Trump's 2016 presidential campaign. President Trump and first lady Melania Trump depart the White House Tuesday for the first televised presidential debate.

Trump met with dozens of people through the week and reportedly went to a fundraiser in New Jersey after it was known Hicks had contracted the virus.

Mr Biden replied to this claim and others made by his rival, saying: "Here's the deal, the fact is that everything he's saying so far is simply a lie". Mr Trump said on Twitter. Vice President Mike Pence's spokeswoman, Katie Miller, tested positive earlier this year and suffered symptoms before recovering.

The president's condition is likely to bring the pandemic back to center stage in the race, after the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Trump's subsequent nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to fill her seat shifted the campaign's focus. Early next week, he was scheduled to campaign in Arizona.

Trump's diagnosis comes days after a ramshackle debate with Democratic rival Joe Biden that was marred by more mudslinging than policy discussion. She was not wearing a mask last Tuesday, after the presidential debate in Cleveland, Ohio, when she, White House adviser Stephen Miller, and campaign adviser Jason Miller rode in the same van together.

National Security Adviser Robert O'Brien, a number of Secret Service agents, a Marine One pilot and a White House cafeteria worker have also tested positive. Others hastened to add that Hicks is often seen in public without a mask.
