Pelosi to discuss 25th Amendment: What that is, simplified

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) hinted at a plan Thursday to remove President Donald Trump from office using the 25th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

Just weeks before the November 3 election, Pelosi said Trump needs to disclose more about his health after his COVID-19 diagnosis.

Section four of the 25th Amendment also says that if a majority of a body established by law, along with the vice president, declare in writing that if the president is disabled and unable to do his job, the vice president immediately becomes the acting president.

Donald Trump has claimed Democrat moves to set up a panel to judge the USA presidents' capacity to govern is aimed at removing an "out of it" Joe Biden if he is elected. It all came in a head-spinning series of tweets and comments days after he returned to the White House after his hospitalization with COVID-19. The aide requested anonymity because the negotiations are private. "I would like to see a bigger stimulus package, frankly, than either the Democrats or the Republicans are offering", Trump said in an interview with conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh.

The new proposal, an improvement over the administration's previous $1.6 trillion offer, brings them closer to the Democrats' latest package costing $2.2 trillion.

Mr McConnell admitted on Thursday that he had stopped going to the White House two months ago because he disagreed with its coronavirus protocols.

As millions of jobless and financially struggling Americans await a stimulus deal from Washington, the White House put out a new $1.8 trillion proposal on the table on Friday. "It's not hard to think that there will be future situations where the president's physical and mental state may create issues for us". "But the proximity to the election and the differences about what is need at this particular juncture are pretty vast".

Despite Trump testing positive for the virus just last week, on Tuesday - the next day after returning from Walter Reed - the president departed from the residential area of the White House and spent time in the Oval Office, where he was surrounded by White House staffers and top campaign aides that could have been exposed to Trump's transmission of the disease.

McConnell added that "the first item of priority of the Senate is the Supreme Court".

"What we're saying as a House of Representatives, all we want to do is get a package done". "The devil and the angels are in the details", she said.

After taking blowback for that decision, Trump sought to revive the negotiations on Thursday.

All of this comes as Trump is sliding in the polls and is sidelined by his COVID-19 infection.

And the runway for coming together on the deal is running short. Talks were ongoing when Trump shut them down. The talks are still unlikely to produce results in the near term because even if there was a breakthrough, it could take weeks to process.

"The only point about negotiations is, ain't gonna be no stand-alone bill unless there's a bigger bill, and it could be part of that or it could be in addition to that", Pelsoi said at her weekly press conference.

"My impression was their approach to how to handle this was different from mine and what I insisted we do in the Senate, which is to wear a mask and practise social distancing", McConnell said at a campaign stop in northern Kentucky for his own reelection.
