Theodore's goal was the first in 138:40 for the Golden Knights against Demko, the rookie who had brought Vancouver back from a 3-1 deficit in the series and held off Vegas for most of this game, too. Vegas looked, by my eyes, to be the better team throughout Game 7, but had to beat the ghost of Georges Vezina in Thatcher Demko's body. Plus, while it's still not fully clear what ailment caused Markstrom to miss the final three games of the Golden Knights series, it was concerning enough that he didn't dress as the backup in any of the games. He had a 48-save shutout in Game 6. Defenseman Erik Johnson did not play after he was injured in Game 1; forward Joonas Donskoi missed the final five games; forward Gabriel Landeskog missed Game 7; and forward Matt Calvert did not play in the series. He stopped 33 of the 34 shots he faced, which gave him a.971 save percentage on the night.
Demko was stellar in Game 5 when Jacob Markstom was deemed unfit to play and was even better Thursday night. The Canucks allowed an average of 33.3 shots against this season, fourth-most in the National Hockey League, so investing in skaters who can lower that total could offset Demko's inexperience.
Now, general manager Jim Benning has the very hard task of deciding whether Demko has shown enough to be a primary starter or if Markstrom - a pending free agent - should be offered a contract to return. He could get them back on track here.
No scar, however, might have been more damaging in their three-year history than a failure to survive the Vancouver Canucks inside the Edmonton bubble. Lehner has struggled in the second game of back-to-back starts, and he was in that situation in Game 7.
When, how to watch Game 1 of Dallas Stars vs. Instead, they're playing in the franchise's second Game 7, and they're hoping for a better outcome. The club did not show any urgency to pepper Lehner with shots throughout the game.
Vancouver pulled Lehner with about 6 minutes left and it backfired when Horvat skated the puck into an empty net, sealing a seven-game series.

Clark County saw a drop in the number of people filing unemployment claims last week, continuing a trend of gradual economic recovery.
We have a game seven folks and this one is surprising.
In Sunday's Game 4, the second game in two nights, Vegas gave Robin Lehner the night off and went with Marc-Andre Fleury and got a great performance from the future hall-of-famer.
Game 7 wasn't the only game in the series the Canucks failed to convert with the extra skater. The Avalanche were 22.1 percent on the power-play (15-for-68) in the postseason, but 12.5 percent against the Stars (4-for-32). The Canucks' power play ranked fourth during the regular season and helped them beat the Minnesota Wild and the St. Louis Blues in the playoffs.
The Golden Knights completely dominated possession in this game right from the opening face-off. Hughes has 16 points this postseason, one more than the record for rookie defenseman Colorado's Cale Makar set Wednesday night.
