Gareth Bale: Manchester United and Tottenham offered Real Madrid winger

Tottenham Hotspur are now favourites to sign Real Madrid full-back Sergio Reguilón - according to a report by the usually-reliable David Ornstein of the Athletic.

United have expressed an interest in the Wales worldwide, but any move for Bale depends on the outcome of their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho, which remains at an impasse. They are also aware that any loan would just see an unwanted player return at less value than before, given his age.

Manchester United have been linked with the 31-year-old at a time where they're struggling to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.

But having forged strong relationships with key staff during his spell as Madrid manager between 2010 and 2013, Mourinho has spoken to former colleagues at the club to find out why Bale has fallen out of favour under Zidane.

"That's where [Tottenham] he wants to go", Barnett told the AP.

Bale has won four Champions League titles with Real, but he has a reputation for uninterestedness as well as poor fitness.

Tottenham, however, have the additional emotional pull for the player they signed as a 17-year-old from Southampton in 2007 and helped develop into one of the world's best players.

As well as their interest in Bale, Tottenham are reported to be in talks with Real about left-back Sergio Reguilon, while Eintracht Frankfurt striker Bas Dost has been mooted as a potential signing to provide back-up for Harry Kane.

Reguilon will become Tottenham's fourth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Matt Doherty, and Joe Hart.
