Coronavirus: Railways to run 80 new special trains from September 12


Reservations will begin on 10 September.

Yadav said the railways will monitor all the trains that are now in operation to determine which trains have a long waiting list.

"Our future endeavour will be to keep monitoring the occupancy patterns of the trains, so that whenever we witness a surge in demand for a particular train leading to waiting lists, we will run a clone train there to clear the rush", Yadav said, according to The Indian Express.

These trains will be restricted stoppages in view of the suggestions of the state government, the railways said.

Earlier, Indian Railways had declared about its plan to run 100 more trains.

As per the recent announcement, Kumar said that a list of 80 trains (40 pairs - up an down) will be made available from September 12 and will run mainly on Mumbai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Patna and Delhi.

Yadav also said all trains that are now in operation will be monitored regularly to find out which trains have a long waiting list and railways will run more trains on such routes.

The Railways started to operate the Shramik Special trains from May 1 to help migrant workers, students, pilgrims and tourists stranded across the country amid lockdown.

Yadav also said the Railways will run trains whenever there is demand from states for exams or other similar purposes.

"It is also possible that some new trains would be introduced or the existing trains might be renamed or rescheduled", Yadav said. It is true that the tenders and land acquisition were delayed a bit due to the coronavirus pandemic, but I can say that the project is progressing well.

"Within next 3-6 months, when we get definite status of land, bullet train project completion timeframe can be worked out,"he said".

Commenting on the dedicated freight corridor and the delays, Yadav said the contractors have started speeding up work and the issues have been resolved.
