Modern-day great Dhoni posted on Instagram on Saturday to say "consider me retired", along with a video montage of his India appearances over the years, though he did not specify whether his announcement refers to all cricket or just the worldwide arena.

"Thanks. Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout.from 1929 hrs consider me as Retired (sic.)", Dhoni wrote in the caption.

The wicketkeeper already called time on his Test career in 2014 during a tour of Australia, which also came as a massive surprise, but he continued to represent India in the shorter formats. "From 1929hrs consider me as retired", Dhoni said in an Instagram post, in reference to worldwide competition.

Soon after Dhoni announced his retirement, another well-known cricketer Suresh Raina also followed suit.

He debuted in Test cricket against Sri Lanka in 2010. His batting in one-day cricket in his early stages made the world stand up and notice his flair and sheer natural brilliance. He scored 10,773 runs in ODIs, which included 73 fifties and 10 centuries.

Gamers kneeling for anthem met with boos right before MLS activity
MLS Commissioner Don Garber said last weekend the song would be played after it was not played in the MLS is Back tournament. He had asked for the national anthem not to be played but the MLS had stated it would be whenever fans are in attendance .

Tests: 90 matches, 4876 runs, 6 100s, 33 50s.

For vast swathes of his career, Dhoni seemed to have a preternatural ability to judge run chases, taking chases deep - nearly theatrically so - and trusting himself to finish the job, just as he did that night at the Wankhede Stadium in 2011.

Under his captaincy, India also won the 2013 Champions Trophy after England stumbled late on in their run chase in the final.

"His leadership qualities have been something which will be hard to match".

Jay Shah, Honorary Secretary, BCCI, said: "MS Dhoni is one of the greats of the modern era". He is additionally credited with achieving the highest number of stumpings in global cricket at 195. He was involved in some of the great moments of Indian cricket and did things his own way. He said on his Instagram handle, "I choose to join you in this journey".
