Seattle Kraken: Meet the NHL's 32nd team, coming 2021

The team's Twitter account tweeted a video on Wednesday implying the new name will have a marine theme.

Just a couple of years ago, it was revealed that the team would be given an expansion franchise in the National Hockey League, which was met with a lot of excitement. The league's most recent addition gives the NHL an even 16 franchises in the Eastern and Western conferences.

Seattle will begin play in the 2021-22 season, instead of 2020 as originally planned, ensuring that arena renovations are completed in time.

Only for one more night, though - mere hours until we learn the sweet, sweet truth - as the team is expected to officially announce its name, potentially along with a reveal of its colours, logo and uniform design mock-ups on Thursday morning.

Kraken was selected over other options that had been floated publicly: Totems, Sockeyes, Steelheads and Metropolitans, the latter of which was the name of the city's original pro hockey team, which won the Stanley Cup in 2017.
