Aaryn Smiley, the daughter of nationally syndicated radio show host Rickey Smiley, has posted a message about her condition for the first time since she was shot in central Houston on Sunday, July 5, 2020, while en route to get food with friends.
From her hospital bed, the teen also included more of the horrifying details from Sunday's shooting, adding how she was almost shot in the head. She's just crying, she's scared, and I just hate it'. "She was on her way to Whataburger to get something to eat".
Rickey also expressed gratitude that his daughter is alive and asked everyone to pray for other families that have been affected by gun violence. "I'm sitting up here a gunshot victim myself and I'm still up here fighting and praying for the rights of Black people and all of the parents that had to bury their loved ones due to gun violence in our own community by our own people".
Madame Noire reported that "he has to fly to Dallas then drive to Houston to see his daughter because of the limited number of flights available and the extensive layovers".

Aaryn thanked everyone "for keeping me in your prayers" in her Instagram Story.
"T$3 he fact that the bullets that went thru my legs were armored riffled [sic] bullets made to go through anything (how they got through the car) but the one [that] would have hit me in the head was not that kind and ended up lodged in the auto". I'm so mad right now, I don't know what to do'. "Scariest part of all of this is the fact that I'm alone".
