NFL's Biggest Stars Express COVID Concerns Over Start of Training Camp

National Football League stars and former Tigers Deshaun Watson and DeAndre Hopkins were among a number of players to speak out on social media Sunday ahead of National Football League training camps starting soon.

Super Bowl winning quarterbacks Drew Brees, Patrick Mahomes and Russell Wilson along with Houston Texans defensive end JJ Watt were among those expressing their frustration at the National Football League ignoring advice from its own medical experts.

"I want to play football".

He wrote: "My wife is pregnant". "My wife is pregnant. And there's still No Clear Plan on Player Health & Family Safety", Wilson tweeted.

Players also wanted a 45-day acclimation period to help avoid injuries. The league's plans have been for testing every other day and holding two preseason games per team, down from the usual four. And they still don't know how positive tests will be handled.

The NFL and its players have reached agreement on the testing aspect of their COVID-19 safety protocols as training camps get set to open over the next couple of weeks.

The Twitter action appears to be a coordinated effort spearheaded by the NFL Player's Association.

With the first players for each team due to report to their team facilities in the next few days, veterans across the league are speaking up concerning the NFL's lack of a plan to keep them safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to an internal memo, rookies for other teams are scheduled to report Tuesday, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported.

The NFL distributed a 39-page document on coronavirus protocols for training camp and the preseason on July 3.

The NFLPA told ESPN that players weren't specifically instructed to tweet, but that union was "involved, to make sure (the tweets) were (on) factual grounds".

If the Bears do play one preseason game, they would host the defending NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers at Soldier Field on Saturday, Aug. 29. The Seahawks drafted linebacker Jordyn Brooks and defensive end Darrell Taylor in the 2020 NFL Draft while adding edge rushers Bruce Irvin and Benson Mayowa in free agency to address their coverage and pass rushing issues. "Focus continues to be on playing a regular full season and postseason", he said on Twitter Monday.
