NFL, NFLPA reach key agreement on COVID-19 testing

On Monday, the NFL and the NFL Players Association reportedly agreed to COVID-19 testing protocols, which will include daily testing for the first two weeks of training camp.

If the NFL's proposal is approved by the NFLPA, the league would only have teams playing preseason games during the weekend on August 29, when the Kansas City Chiefs are set to face the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in Dallas. Detroit's rookies are expected to arrive in Allen Park as soon as Tuesday, and camp opens on July 28.

It's unclear how many players were tested as part of that sample.

The NFL already agreed to cut down the preseason to two games, but now they've submitted a new proposal to the NFLPA that would limit teams to a single preseason game in 2020. "We still do not know how a positive Covid test will be handled in regards to others in close contact (in the huddle, directly engaged with, etc.)".

I'm pretty sure that if you made a complaint, the only thing that was going to happen was that you were going to get fired. Trademark issues related to the team's preferred new name are contributing to the delay, according to multiple reports.

The Tennessee Titans have announced the official training camp report dates for all players. Should both return negative, they will be allowed into the team facility, assuming Santa Clara County allows the 49ers to do so by then. Players did not have an offseason training program, nor organized team activities (OTAs) or minicamp practices on the field, as they do every other April through June.

"Our position was we have players, who have spoken with our membership, who are nervous about flying from a relative safe location directly into a hot spot with their families, with their kids, with their wives", NFLPA president, and Cleveland Browns center, J.C. Tretter, told reporters.

The salary cap, of course, is directly tied to league revenue, and the players union projects each club could see a $70 million drop in their cap allotment for 2021. Five days later, that number increased by 23. The NFL on Monday offered the union zero preseason games, per a report by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Seahawks quarterbacks are scheduled to report to camp on Thursday, per a letter the National Football League sent to teams this past weekend. If a players tests positive and shows symptoms, he'll be allowed to return to the facility 10 days after first experiencing the symptoms - and after at least 72 hours have passed since he last experienced symptoms.

Wilson could conceivably begin strength and conditioning training July 28, the day Metcalf and the rest of the Seahawks veterans are due to report and get tested for the first time.
