Though Singh's visit was to attend ceremonies associated with the 75th anniversary of the Soviet victory over Germany in the Second World War, a report by ANI news agency said Singh will ask Russian Federation to supply the spares needed for Indian fighter jets, tanks and submarines to be dispatched by air rather than by ship to reduce travel time.

Putin watched as intercontinental ballistic missile launchers trundled past, nuclear-capable bombers flew overhead, and columns of tanks and over 14,000 troops, including some from allies like China, marched past under hot sunshine.

"Attending the Victory Day Parade at Red Square in Moscow today to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of Victory of the Soviet People in the great Patriotic War of 1941-1945", Singh tweeted on Wednesday.

Red Square was tightly packed during the event.

Russians on Thursday will begin casting their ballots in a seven-day vote on sweeping reforms that could clear the way for President Vladimir Putin to remain in power until 2036 in an exercise that critics have called a constitutional coup. Election authorities said they would invalidate all the votes in the ballot box where Lobkov put his ballot. The key amendment "resets" the count on Putin's presidential terms to zero, meaning he would be able to run again for president in 2024, even though the constitution still imposes a limit of two terms.

A poll by Russia's only independent polling agency, the Levada Center, in May showed Putin's approval ratings among Russians had dropped to 59%, down from 63% a month earlier and the lowest since he first came to power.

State pollster VTsIOM has forecast that 67 per cent to 71 per cent of voters will endorse the changes.
