PGA Tour says 11 people returned negative coronavirus tests at RBC Heritage

Saturday's third round at the RBC Heritage will go on as scheduled. "We were impressed how nobody was wearing a mask". "It would be nice if we just had the ability to get tested whenever we like".

Justin Thomas doesn't believe it's a coincidence that Nick Watney became the first PGA Tour player to test positive for COVID-19 while playing in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

Watney was among the 369 tests the Tour administered earlier this week that were all negative.

Watney's caddie, Tony Navarro, said he tested negative.

Brooks Koepka might have needed a test as well after admitting he stood next to Watney in the vehicle park before his second round. "Yeah, it's a shame, but the show goes on".

Asked what his reaction was when he heard Watney had tested positive for the disease, the Spaniard replied: "My first reaction was I was surprised".

"We're still in the middle of a pandemic", McIlroy said.

On Saturday, after his round, Garcia said he felt awful for Watney, calling him one of the nicest guys on Tour. Fortunately for me, it was fine. "And as long as it's contained to that and we move forward, we can keep playing". Fans will not be allowed to attend.

The tournament is typically played in April, the week after the Masters, when school is still in session.

Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka revealed they had both been around Watney, who was at the course while he waited for his results. "He was just saying, look, I hope I didn't get too close to you", said McIlroy. You never know.' So I said to him, if I was in his position, I probably would have been here too. Watney, a five-time victor, now faces self-isolation for at least the next 10 days.

The guide also said that at-home tests before traveling to a tournament are "strongly encouraged" but not required and that players and caddies must begin self-screening for seven days prior to tournament travel.

It's up to them what they do after hours. Thomas was among those who noted how busy it was on the island.

"No offence to Hilton Head, but they're seeming to not take it very seriously", Thomas said. There's people everywhere. The beaches are absolutely packed. Obviously, I got my test done yesterday, and I was negative.

"Unfortunately, it had to happen to him", Garcia said, who then made an odd declaration.

The PGA Tour said Watney, upon arriving at Harbour Town for second-round action, indicated he had symptoms consistent with the illness.

US Centers for Disease Control guidelines dictate the contact tracing tests as well as self-quarantine after positives, such as Watney is now undergoing at Hilton Head.

When the test came back positive, he immediately withdrew. I don't know if we are. "What I've done is I stay in a house with a chef each week with a couple of guys and keep it in that small circle, so I feel very, very safe in that regard". He saw that something was a little bit off. I don't think anyone thought that. I hope he's feeling well and gets through this physically and mentally.

The RBC Heritage is taking place without spectators as the PGA Tour cautiously returns from a March shut down.

"I think the consensus was someone is going to get it at some point, and Nick's the one that's got it, and he's self-isolating and doing what he has to do".
