Ishant Sharma's old Instagram post confirms Darren Sammy's racial slur allegations

Former West Indies captain Darren Sammy has revealed that he was subjected to racial abuse in the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) dressing room when he played for the franchise in the 2013-14 editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL). It doesn't apply to everybody, but I see this because of something I experienced. He thought that the name was meant to show that he's strong and to encourage them mentally.

"So recently I discovered a word that I was being called was not what it actually meant, I need some answers". Let's have a conversation.

Sammy had also spoken out against racism last week, in the wake of the custodial killing of George Floyd, a black man, by a white policeman in Minneapolis. "Me being a team man, I thought teammates are happy, so it must be something amusing".

"You will get racism, people will shout things at cricket grounds, football grounds, wherever, you can't stamp out racism by tackling individual sports, you have to tackle the society", Holding, who took 249 wickets in 60 Tests for West Indies between 1975 and 1987, said in an Instagram chat on Sunday night.

'I thought it meant strong stallion, and I saw no problems with it because I was ignorant to the fact of what it meant.

In an updated video posted to Instagram today, Sammy said he was furious when he found out the true meaning of the word.

Apple Subscriptions Bundle (Apple Music, TV+, News+) Coming Soon?
Back in 2019 it was reported Apple had been in talks with music producers and publishers about bundling content together. He added that Apple sees the "subscription" area as one of the major growth areas.

'You can understand my frustration and my anger when it was pointed out to me that it wasn't amusing at all, it was degrading.

"Every time I was called it, there was laughter at that moment".

"I've embraced all the dressing rooms I've played in".

Sammy, who is black, said in a video on Instagram he was frequently called "kalu" by smiling and laughing Sunrisers Hyderabad teammates while playing in the IPL in 2013 and 2014. If it was in a bad way then I would be really disappointed, and I'll still be angry and deserve an apology from you guys as I saw all of you guys as my brothers.

Ishant, in another past Instagram post, had described Sammy has one of the best human beings he knows and also a close friend. He held Floyd down with a knee on his neck though he repeatedly pleaded, "I can't breathe", and "please, I can't breathe".

Sammy reiterated that he is very disappointed.
