Critics pointed out Rowling's views equated womanhood with menstruation while many trans men menstruate and many other women do not.

Human Rights Campaign, the largest advocacy group for LGBTQ+ rights in the United States, also criticized Rowling's latest tweets and said that several medical and other scientific experts validated and affirmed trans people. At the same time, my life has been shaped by being female. Of all of the times she could have chosen to remind us of her desperation to shut trans women out, she chose now. "I do not believe it's hateful to say so", Rowling wrote. "We're fighting for Black people & trans people and you're doing this?" Van Ness, who identifies as non-binary, wrote: "Trans women are women".

Rowling's comments also seemed to imply that transgender women being seen as women somehow invalidates the struggles of cisgender women and negates the existence of lesbians, which people were not here for. She also questioned the use of the phrase "people who menstruate". "Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?" Thereafter, many users lashed out at the author for her comment.

"Trans women are women".

At the time, a spokesperson told The Sun that Rowling's like was a 'clumsy and middle-aged moment'.

In December, Rowling defended Maya Forstater, a London-based tax expert was sacked after posting messages on Twitter that transgender women can not change their biological sex. Live your best life in peace and security.
