County Public Health Lab increases daily COVID-19 testing capacity to 300

Bureau County has had 24 confirmed cases and one death related to COVID-19. Meanwhile, Pulaski County had four new positive cases, bringing the total up to 58. As of Thursday, the seven-day average for positive tests was at 4.5 percent, higher than the 3.5 percent measured over the previous two-week period. There are 22 active cases in Missoula County. SJBPH and its local partners have increased testing ability and targeted testing over recent weeks.

The 225 new cases reported Friday are the third-highest single-day total in New Mexico since the outbreak surfaced March 11.

Of the 3,494 confirmed cases, 82 people are hospitalized, and 10 patients are in the ICU on a ventilator.

In response to the new cases, SJBPH increased its disease investigation efforts, which include contact tracing, isolation, and quarantine guidance and follow-up. The only two bigger days were June 5 - when 330 positive tests came in, driven partly by an outbreak among inmates - and April 29, when the state had 239 new infections.

La Plata and Archuleta counties both see large tourist populations from these states during the summer.

The Douglas County Health Department reported 159 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, bringing the area's total to 6,923 cases. He said public health microbiologists only recently began using the Panther to test for COVID-19, but they use the tool daily in the diagnosis of other communicable diseases.
