According to reports, the actor had a heart attack (Chiranjeevi Sarja Died Due To Heart Attack), after which he was admitted for treatment, but Chiranjeevi's condition could not improve and he died on Sunday evening. Hence, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was started according to the latest Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) protocol.

The news of his death shocked the South Indian film industry. He was taken to hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Sources add that the doctors have also taken swab tests to ascertain if COVID 19 was present as Chiranjeevi was hale and healthy and did not have any health problems to date. From there, his family members will take his body to his residence.

Puneeth Rajkumar wrote, "Shocking to know @chirusarja is no more". "Oh fate you so cruel? My prayers are with the family, may God give them the strength to endure this grief", Yediyurappa tweeted on Sunday.

Shivarajkumar said that he felt like he lost a brother today. He used to dance well.

Kannada politician and wife of famous actor Ambreesh, Sumalata Ambreesh mourned his death and wrote, "Extremely sad to hear the demise of talented actor Chiranjeevi Sarja, a dear friend who was very close to our family".
