Trump says churches are ‘essential,’ demands states let them reopen this weekend

The White House confirmed to CNN that the President and first lady Melania Trump are still slated to visit Baltimore's Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine on Monday "to honor the American heroes who have sacrificed their lives serving in the US Armed Forces".

President Donald Trump announced Friday he's deeming houses of worship essential and that they should reopen, threatening to "override" governors if they don't agree.

"So I'm correcting this injustice and calling houses of worship essential".

"If they don't do it, I will override the governors", he said, although it wasn't immediately clear whether he has the authority to do that.

The president confirmed that the new guidelines would apply to churches, synagogues, and mosques. One California county banned singing during live-streamed church services.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is issuing guidance for communities of faith at Trump's direction. They love their people.
