Trump criticizes two states for advancing vote-by-mail options

US President Donald Trump yesterday escalated his campaign to discredit the integrity of mail balloting, threatening to "hold up" federal funding to MI and Nevada in response to the states' plans to increase voting by mail to reduce the public's exposure to the coronavirus.

And the president zeroed in on California, where earlier this month Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom announced that all registered voters in the state will receive a mail-in ballot for November's general election.

"I think people are seeing through it", Perez said.

As of Tuesday, Michigan has seen more than 52,000 cases of coronavirus, with 5,017 of its residents having died as a result of the disease. While the mail-in ballots received by voters display the original Primary date of April 28, the ballots are in fact valid for the June 2 election.

"Just like my GOP colleagues in Iowa, Georgia, Nebraska and West Virginia", Benson wrote.

In addition to the coronavirus crisis, MI is also facing devastating flooding in central parts of the state.

Trump, who voted by mail in Florida's primary election in March, pointed out the difference between what he did and what would happen if mail-in voting on a large scale is allowed.

There's a fight playing out in both state and federal courts about just who is eligible to vote by mail in Texas.

Speaking to reporters later at the White House, the president claimed without proof that mail-in ballots lead to "forgeries" and "thousands and thousands of fake ballots".

Chertoff has been selected to co-chair a task force assembled by Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser that focuses on reopening the nation's capital. They point to flubs in the state's operation of automatic voter registration.

The president also took to Twitter twice on Sunday to blast moves to make it easier to vote by mail in November.

The commission also analyzed recommendations to distribute millions in aid to local clerks to account for mailing ballots, and an overall change to the design of absentee ballots.

As a last resort, there will also be a limited number of in-person voting centers, staffed by poll workers wearing masks and other personal protective gear.
