Historic SpaceX Crew Dragon Rescheduled Due to Weather Concerns

SpaceX, the private rocket company of billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, launched two Americans toward orbit from Florida on Saturday in a mission that marks the first spaceflight of NASA astronauts from us soil in nine years.

The historic NASA launch of the SpaceX Demo-2 mission to the International Space Station has been postponed due to bad weather.

The history-making SpaceX Demo-2 launch was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but it was called off less than 20 minutes before liftoff due to inclement weather.

Nasa chiefs have said the SpaceX launch that was scheduled for Wednesday had to be delayed over concerns that the launch could trigger lightning.

"We've had the luxury over the last five-plus years to be deeply embedded and understand the trades that were made", Behnken stated. Space X designed and built both spacecraft. Starliner did not manage to rendezvous with the space station as planned during an uncrewed test flight this past December; Boeing will refly that mission before attempting a crewed flight. That will involve helping with station maintenance and conducting experiments, and then they'll re-enter Crew Dragon and make the trip back to Earth for an Atlantic Ocean splashdown and recovery once their time at the station is over.

The SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule will take off from Launch Pad 39A, the same facility used by Neil Armstrong and the Apollo crew for their historic voyage to the moon.

It will be the first crewed orbital flight from United States soil since 2011 and it is the first time ever in a privately-owned spacecraft, which has been designed and manufactured by Elon Musk-founded SpaceX.

A Falcon 9 rocket is to carry Crew Dragon.

Officials say thunderstorms and a tornado warning around the launchpad in Florida and along the east coast are to blame.

Falcon 9 and Dragon had an instant launch window, so SpaceX was unable to keep count and wait until the weather passed.

A cargo ship arrives at the International Space Station on April 19, 2019.

'Nothing better than being prime crew on a new spaceship, ' Behnken responded.

Since the retirement of the space shuttle program, NASA has relied on partnering with the Russian space agency in order to send USA astronauts to the ISS.

The flight - the long-held dream of SpaceX founder Elon Musk - would have marked the first time a private company sent humans into orbit.

Whether an attempt is made Saturday or Sunday, "There will be no pressure".

Pence was present to see off Behnken and Hurley as they left the operations building at KSC to ride to the launch site.
