The four-door vehicle sells for 366,550 yuan ($52,000) before rebates, according to Tesla's website, and is created to have a range of about 668 kilometers (415 miles) on one charge.
The reason the news attracted so much attention was that Tesla had stopped production of the long-range Model 3 RWD model in the US before.
Prior to this, the only Chinese made Tesla was the Model 3 Standard Range RWD.
The rear-wheel drive variant, with a driving range of over 600 kilometers before needing to be recharged, differs from the imported version which was all-wheel drive and priced 439,900 yuan.
The longer-range electric model could help Tesla fend off competition from other global automakers, including Volkswagen AG and BMW AG and local rivals struggling to sell cars during the coronavirus pandemic.
