NY and five neighboring states will develop a plan to reopen the regional economy following a weeks-long shutdown to contend with the coronavirus pandemic, state governors said at a press briefing Monday. "That's what we have to think through".
For a smoother and more uniform approach, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Rhode Island will form a panel to share knowledge.
"You're not going to have a healthy economy if you have an unhealthy population", Wolf said.
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio had said earlier that public schools in New York would remain shut until the end of the school period.
"We will use those hotels aggressively as a tool to support homeless individuals, to strike the right balance in our shelters to make sure people who need to be isolated are isolated", he said.
Ms. Raimondo had also issued an executive order last month saying that people returning to Rhode Island from NY had to self-quarantine for two weeks.
During a press conference on Saturday, the mayor said his administration would move 6,000 homeless New Yorkers into hotels by Monday, April 20.
Pope Urges Solidarity On An Easter Of Both Joy, Virus Sorrow
The church would normally be packed with people marking Easter, including the president, prime minister and parliament speaker. Its Orthodox counterpart in Greece is planning to hold mass behind closed doors for its Easter on April 19.
"We want to reopen as soon as possible", New York Governor Andrew Cuomo told reporters.
'We have strong winds and heavy rain coming our way on Monday, New York City, so it's really simple: if you do not need to be outside tomorrow then STAY HOME, ' de Blasio tweeted.
Cuomo said the restart has to be planned and carried out slowly while keeping an eye on the virus rates.
"We won't open schools one minute sooner than they should be open, but we won't open schools one minute later than they should be open, either", Cuomo said.
Why it matters: Widespread shutdowns of nonessential businesses have caused significant economic damage not just in New York, an epicenter of the crisis in the US, but also in the surrounding states that rely on New York City as a business hub.
Cuomo didn't have a timeline for when the states might begin reopening. An additional 758 additional COVID-19 deaths on were reported on Saturday, for a total of 9,385, Cuomo commented.
"The state boundaries mean very little to this virus", he said. Beginning at 11:00 a.m. EDT in Albany, Cuomo is predicted to give you the public with New York's most up-to-date coronavirus statistics-together with case counts, fatalities, hospitalizations and ICU admissions-in addition to perception into the state's evolving control plan. "Products will be limited by quantity to enable us to continue prioritizing products and protecting employees, while also ensuring most selling partners can ship goods into our facilities", the spokesperson continued.
