Roger Mayweather, a former boxing champion and Floyd Mayweather's uncle, has died.

Floyd Mayweather has described his uncle and trainer Roger as "one of the most important people in my life inside and outside of the ring" after his death aged 58.

Mayweather coached his nephew Floyd between 2000 and 2012 guiding him to numerous world titles during the peak years of Floyd's reign.

A native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, he fought such names as Julio Cesar Chavez and Pernell Whitaker and was 59-13 with 35 knockouts in an 18-year career that began in 1981.

Roger is credited with molding Floyd into the top fighter he is today and was a key member of his training team.

His cause of death has not been reported.

Roger Mayweather's biggest moment in the ring following his own impressive career arguably came during a brawl in the middle of a boxing match between Floyd and Zab Judah in 2006.
