WhatsApp's Dark Mode for iPhone Inches Closer to Release, Requires iOS 13


The dark theme uses iOS 13 APIs to understand if the system uses a dark mode and automatically presents dark UI elements.

Once Dark Theme is enabled on WhatsApp, all other screens including chat screen, settings, chat lists, etc will have a dark background.

WhatsApp has been hard at work trying to implement dark mode on iOS and finally they have released to the beta channel.

According to WABetaInfo, a website known for tracking WhatsApp updates, the new beta version introduces an improved dark theme with "no battery drain", and it supports official iOS 13 APIs. A new beta version of TestFlight program is found to have this new setting in its testing notes, hinting the Apple users to prepare for their much-awaited feature. If you are on it, then update the app from there, open WhatsApp, wait until connection is established, close the app, and restart it again. Apart from the Dark mode, the latest WhatsApp update also adds background blur effect, and advanced search mode. The Dark Mode is enabled all across the WhatsApp interface, and looks worthy of being rolled out in a stable build in near future.

In dark mode, WhatsApp will display darker green chat bubbles, and even a black and white splash screen (as opposed to the current white and green). After updating the app, force restart the app, and you will see a dark WhatsApp splash screen. With this feature, you will be able to search specific messages or media files stored on your device such as web links, GIFs, audio, photos, documents, and videos. Users can choose between Grid and Captions view while using Advanced Search Mode on WhatsApp.
