The Daily Mail reported that Newman was leading the race "when his auto was nudged up against a wall and flipped over" before "it was struck by a trailing vehicle and flipped again".

Videos shared on Twitter capture the moment Newman's vehicle turned over on its roof and caught fire right at the finish line. The FOX television broadcast said he was being taken straight to the hospital.

A statement from NASCAR said that Newman "is in serious condition, but doctors have indicated his injuries are not life threatening".

The NASCAR community has been rocked by a terrifying accident involving Ryan Newman.

NASCAR executive vice president Steve O'Donnell later told reporters that Newman was in serious condition at a local area hospital, but his injuries were deemed non-life-threatening. "We ask that [our] daughters' privacy be respected at this time".

Hamlin said Ryan Newman is a "tough guy" in his post-race speech.

An entire generation of NASCAR drivers and fans has come along since Dale Earnhardt was killed in 2001, with many never having never experienced a NASCAR fatality.

"I don't know. We just got the bumpers hooked up wrong and I turned him. Close one but I hope Ryan's all right".

Patrick Murphy tweeted later the same day that he greatly appreciated Cambodia's assistance, as there are US citizens on the ship. By evening, the ship moved into the beach town's port, moving past the small fishing vessels that usually ply the waters.

Hamlin won his third Daytona 500 on Monday, becoming the first driver since Sterling Marlin in 1995 to win "The Great American Race" in consecutive seasons.

With Hamlin in third, he then gave Blaney a push as they chased Newman. Racing, we know what can happen, we just dream it doesn't happen.

"We're grateful for the news about Ryan", said Mark Rushbrook, global director, Ford Performance Motorsports, in a statement.

"I was just committing to pushing him to the win once he blocked a couple times, was kind of beat".

"Praying for Ryan Newman, a great and courageous @NASCAR driver!"

Runner-up Blaney said he got a push from Hamlin that locked him in behind Newman in a move of brand alliance for Ford.

Hamlin became the first back-to-back Daytona victor since Sterling Marlin in 1995.
