Coronavirus: Irish people on ships linked to outbreak

That number has more than doubled from 24 hours earlier when there were only 15 confirmed Canadian cases.

The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) released a statement early this morning, saying: "Given the conditions on board, we are working to organise a flight back to the UK for British nationals on the Diamond Princess as soon as possible".

Among them was the third Japanese public health official to contract the virus while tending to passengers and crew members aboard the ship, the Diamond Princess.

One charter flight carrying evacuated Americans arrived at Travis Air Force Base near Fairfield, California, around 11:28 p.m. local time Sunday.

The two-week quarantine was largely for the passengers, because crew members kept sharing double rooms with their colleagues, and they continued to serve the guests by delivering food, letters, towels and amenities, and entering passenger cabins for cleaning.

"I am pleased to report that everyone quarantined at CFB Trenton is healthy with no symptoms of novel coronavirus infections", Tam said.

Roojin Habibi, a lawyer specialising in global health law, said the quarantine measure was an experiment carried out in real-time, and that it had turned the ship into "a boiling pot of transmission".

He said the United States health officials who visited their room was apparently surprised that the couple had made a decision to stay, and wished them luck.

The World Health Organization said new data has yielded better understanding of how the virus circulates and shows a decline in new cases, WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a news conference Monday.

The three Indonesian nationals are among more than 540 people found infected on the ship.

Sony Reportedly Struggling to Keep PS5 Hardware Costs Down
The ongoing coronavirus outbreak has had no impact so far on preparations for PlayStation 5 production, they said. The more powerful hardware also requires a more elaborate (and expensive) cooling system than past Sony consoles.

Swartz said a total of three Canadians were part of the 67 new cases discovered on the Diamond Princess.

Mainland China reported 1,886 new virus cases and 98 more deaths for a total of 1,868 in its update Tuesday, following a report that 80% of cases have been mild, prompting guarded optimism from health officials. The most medically vulnerable passengers will be allowed to disembark first.

"Today was hard", she told CTV's Your Morning on Tuesday.

Many of them remain in hospitals around Japan.

Before boarding in Japan, passengers will be screened for symptoms, it said adding those who exhibit symptoms of COVID-19 will not be permitted to board and will instead be transferred to the Japanese health system to receive appropriate care.

"In the isolation area, they posed no additional risk", Dr. Walters said.

The Quebec couple has been outspoken over what they describe as improvised quarantine measures on the ship.

He said Ireland remains COVID-19 free, with well over 100 tests coming back negative.

"Obviously the quarantine hasn't worked, and this ship has now become a source of infection", said Dr. Nathalie MacDermott, an outbreak expert at King's College London.

In Japan, where data showed on February 16 that the economy had already shrunk last quarter at the fastest pace in nearly six years, the impact of the virus is expected to show up in the current quarter, stoking fears of recession. "We're on a boat and we're watching people go away and people just make different choices about how they want to confront the virus".
