USA orders evacuation of diplomats from Wuhan

The death toll has reached 56, while the number of infections climbed to more than 2,000-a more than thirty-fold increase since Chinese authorities reported the virus' first victim two weeks ago.

There have been at least two confirmed cases of coronavirus in the US, as well as in Thailand, South Korea, Japan, Macau, and more.

Authorities around the world have confirmed more than 1,200 coronavirus cases so far, including two in the United States.

The city is rushing to build a 1000-bed hospital by Monday, state media said.

The medical staff were air-dropped into Wuhan and dispatched to multiple hospitals.

The newly-identified coronavirus has created alarm because there are still many unknowns surrounding it, such as how risky it is and how easily it spreads between people. It can worsen pneumonia, which can be fatal. Schools will remain closed until February 17, long after the Chinese New Year holidays, which begin today, should have finished.

Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday said they were in contact with 35 Singaporeans living in Wuhan city, and so far, no one has reported illness. "In reality, it's not possible", she said. "We ended up canceling". Flights from Wuhan to Hong Kong have only been halted since Thursday, when Wuhan was locked down by local authorities. Some parts of the country had checkpoints for temperature readings and made masks mandatory.

Like the flu, the Wuhan coronavirus seems to have a greater impact on older adults and people with underlying health conditions.

450 military medical staff arrived in Wuhan who have experience in handling such situations, having handled the SARS and Ebola epidemic.
