The Purdue Boilermakers will take on the No. 8 Michigan State Spartans at noon ET on Sunday at Mackey Arena.

By far the best player on the court, and arguably one of the top three in the nation, Cassius Winston scored 23 points in each game against the Boilermakers last season, which the two schools split.

After splitting two games last season, these teams will battle for the first time this year.

The Boilermakers also held Spartan's star Cassius Winston on 10 points and five assists. Oturu has two more double-doubles than he did last season with 10, which came with 22 points and 10 rebounds in a 74-58 loss last week at Michigan State.

Michigan State finished with season-lows in field goals (18), 3-pointers (two), field goal percentage (35.3) and 3-point percentage (12.5) while accumulating a season-high 18 turnovers. Time will tell whether coach Matt Painter has a fix - or whether it was merely an aberration. They produced their lowest point total of the season and were held nearly 40 points below their season scoring average of 81.3.

Purdue ranks 39th in steals allowed per game (5.5) while Michigan State ranks 63rd (5.9).

MI finished the season 0-3 against teams that finished in the top 10 and 2-4 against teams that placed in the top 15.

Aside from his sloppy ball handling, Purdue was able to shut the Spartan go-to down on all aspects of his game. The slowdown in Winston will be a top priority for Purdue's defense. Someone on the Boilermakers will need to step up for them to beat the Spartans.

Minute of silence at United Nations for 89 Niger troops
Niger authorities said at least 63 militants were eliminated during the attack. But their standing has slipped as the security situation deteriorated.

Michigan State: Committed seven turnovers before forcing the first by the Boilermakers. The Spartans missed their first 10 3-point attempts and were just 2-of-16 in the game.

Purdue: Williams also had seven rebounds and four assists. Xavier Tillman finished with eight points and eight rebounds. He had 21 points and 20 rebounds in a December 28 win against Florida International.

The unranked Boilermakers (10-7) defeated the 8th Spartans 71-42 Sunday at the Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Indiana. The Boilermakers have lost only once at home this season and haven't lost a single game at Mackey previous year.

"Probably the worst loss I've had as a coach", MI head coach Tom Izzo told reporters.

"It was tough", said Winston.

Senior forward Evan Boudreaux added 11 points off the bench for Purdue, while guards Eric Hunter Jr. and Sasha Stefanovic each scored 10 points.

MSU will return home to host Wisconsin on January 17 at 7 p.m.
