Valve is celebrating the upcoming release of Half-Life: Alyx by making all games in the Half-Life Series free to play for Steam users until the VR title is released.

The games that are now available for free download are: Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Half Life: Episode One and Half-Life Episode Two. At the time of Half-Life: Alyx's announcement, Valve said the game will be launched in March 2020. For example, just before Christmas, Half-Life and Half-Life 2 were in the sale at £0.71 each, though they are now listed at £7.19 each...

Consider this Valve's warning that you really need to know about the Half-Life series before you dive straight into Half-Life: Alyx.

For those that don't already own them, it's now possible to play every game in the Half-Life series entirely for free.

Human Rights Watch said riot police had fired tear gas canisters at the heads of some protesters and rubber bullets at their eyes. Anger at the banks - which curbed people's access to savings - boiled over, with protesters smashing bank facades and ATMs.

From now until Half-Life: Alyx launches, visit the game page of each Half-Life game to install it and play as much as you want, right up until the day Half-Life: Alyx is released!

Steam users received a notification earlier announcing the Half-Life promotion, but the notification appeared to have gone out too early because it soon disappeared.

However, as they say, "Valve giveth and Valve taketh away", and boy oh boy does Valve plan on takething away. While you have two months with these games, it looks like you will have to buy them to play them again once the new VR title is out.

Set between the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2, the game sees protagonist Alyx Vance and her father Eli secretly mount a resistance to the occupation of Earth by a mysterious alien race known as The Combine.
