Dressed in a lab coat, she gave a colorful chemistry demonstration of the catalytic decomposition of hydrogen peroxide. Miss Georgia Victoria Hall and Miss Missouri Simone Ester also advanced to the first three, with the first named finalist of this year and the second becoming the second finalist.

The newly crowned beauty queen told judges that the "new Miss America is someone who needs to educate".

Schrier's science experiment was dubbed the first talent of its kind for a victor of the pageant. In response to various questions, Schrier advocated for awareness about mental health; agreed that Miss America should not post anything controversial on social media; and argued that Miss America should always be a single woman without children, because being in a relationship or having kids could distract from the demanding job. They were eliminated after the talent competition.

Schrier, who gave a chemistry demonstration on hydrogen peroxide during the talent competition, was crowned by 2019 Miss America Nia Franklin from NY. President and CEO of the Miss America Organization Regina Hopper spoke about the benefits of this change.

She finished off her show-stopping performance by saying: "Keep an eye out because science really is all around us".

Representatives for the Miss America Organization did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment. Carlson has since stepped down.
