U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday brushed off North Korea's warning of a "Christmas gift", saying the United States would "deal with it very successfully", amid U.S. concerns that Pyongyang might be preparing a long-range missile test.
In wishing the service members a Merry Christmas and happy new year, the president extolled some of their achievements in 2019.
The Trumps have previously attended holiday services at Bethesda-by-the-Sea, the Episcopal Church in Palm Beach at which they were married in 2005.
Mr. Trump made the call from his Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida, where he and his family are spending the holidays.
"The president and I want to wish each and every American a very merry Christmas", the first lady began in the video, which cuts from a shot of President Trump and her sitting in front of a Christmas tree to scenes of the White House decorated for the holidays.
The president was also spotted at the dinner speaking to Alan Dershowitz, a Harvard law professor and attorney, and prominent defender of Trump.
President Trump has mostly taken the day off of Twitter on Christmas, with the exception of posting holiday greetings from his family.

"We hope your heart is filled with the love and joy of your faith, family, and friends this Christmas", Trump concluded.
When asked by a reporter whether he prayed for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the president reportedly did not respond but said, "We're going to have a great year", according to AP.
Trump praised the armed forces for their efforts this year to eliminate the last of the Islamic State group's territorial caliphate and for killing IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
In his call with the troops, Trump also answered a question if Home Alone 2 is his favorite Christmas movie.
Trump was asked what he'd bought Mrs. Trump for Christmas. You made me think. "We encourage DPRK & US to work out a feasible roadmap for establishing a permanent peace regime & realizing complete denuclearization on the Peninsula", Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said.
"A lot of people mention it every year, especially around Christmas", he said.
