Global warming is causing heatwaves to be hotter, drier, more likely to occur and longer-lasting, and fires are becoming more likely to grow into large blazes and exhibit extreme behaviour that makes them hard to control. These factors contribute in drying out vegetation, making them more susceptible to catching fire.

Convicted arsonists can be charged with manslaughter and face 25 years in jail, with police now investigating 16 suspicious fires throughout the state.

This fire will not be extinguished until significant rains fall across the entire fire ground.

The fire danger wasn't just restricted to the east coast, with the rating for Australia as a whole far and away the highest on record for spring since 1950.

The RFS has are also warned there remain "broad areas of severe and very high fire danger" across northern, eastern and southern parts of the state.

Firefighters have been stretched to their limit for months tackling the NSW bushfire crisis, and it won't get any easier for rescue personnel with high temperatures and strong winds forecast for the end of the week.

With the current heat event, South Australia is bracing for unsafe fire conditions until a cool change late Friday.
