Cristiano Ronaldo scores superhuman header for Serie A leaders Juventus

Portugal superstar Ronaldo was denied what looked a certain third Juve goal early in the second half when Blaise Matuidi inexplicably stepped in front of the talisman to meet a Dybala cross, delivering a clumsy finish that was more of a clearance.

Speaking after the game Ronaldo, who has scored 12 goals this season, said: "The goal was nice, but I am especially happy to have helped the team to get the three points".

In Juve's final league game before a near three-week interval, Maurizio Sarri secured his 100th Serie A victory as a coach in what was just his 169th match.

"Ronaldo scored in National Basketball Association style - he was up there for an hour and a half". "Like I said before I'd had pain in my knee for around a month, but now I'm OK and now I want to help Juventus win trophies".

Juventus are now topping the Italian Serie A standings with 42 points after 17 games played this season.

Pablo Dybala had initially given the Italian giants the lead with a stunning volley in the 19th minute, before Gianluca Caprari grabbed one back with ten minutes to go in the half.

But the Brazil defender again turned provider with another cross from the left to set up Ronaldo's spectacular header.

Ronaldo was denied his second goal by the offside flag late on before Samp scorer Caprari was sent off in stoppage time when he was shown a second yellow card.

Later on Wednesday, goals from Hamed Traore and Francesco Caputo either side of halftime gave Sassuolo a 2-0 win away to Brescia.

The game was a rescheduled week seven fixture that was postponed following the death of Sassuolo president Giorgio Squinzi.
